MUSCAT experiment sucessfully launched from Esrange!

Launched: Thursday 09 May 2013, 06:00 local time

What is MUSCAT?

MUSCAT stands for MUltiple Spheres for Characterization of Atmospheric Temperature. The team consists of 9 students from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) cooperating with Stockholm University. We are currently designing and building an experiment that will be placed on the REXUS 13 sounding rocket which will be launched from Esrange in the spring of 2013. The scientific objectives of our experiment include retrieval of multiple mesospheric and stratospheric temperature and wind profiles using active spherical probes. Another objective of the experiment is also to demonstrate multiple small deployable sub-payloads that are reliable, robust and easy to manufacture.

The project is a part of the REXUS/BEXUS programme, which is run by Swedish national space board, the German counterpart DLR, and the European Space Agency ESA, allowing student teams to launch their experiments on sounding rockets from ESRANGE near Kiruna.
